Alejandro Ruiz Granados Born on June 12, 1994 in Malaga, Spain, he is a professional cricketer. Interestingly, the left-handed cricketer has fought his way through the sport despite his diabetes and is now one of the most important players in the game in the world.
His talent and professionalism largely contributed to his top ten ranking on the Word Padel Tour. Alejandro, aka Alex, has been in the tee position for his entire career, is about 1.78 m tall and weighs between 85 kg and 95 kg, and is the most versatile on tour one of the players.
Terraguess
Alex Ruiz and Matías Marina started writing their history as cricketers at an early age. They had known each other since childhood and played in small tournaments together, but were separated when they made the leap to professional cricket.
They did gain experience from other players and eventually chose a partner in 2015. In the end they won the first title in the professional class; the Cordoba Challengers of Kaos.
Over the next few years:
- The Maragues ultimately opted for Fernando Poggi’s experience, but in 2018 Alex was already 23rd in the men’s cricket rankings and considered a promising talent.
- With firm steps, it continues to grow and consolidate its intentions through the merger of Agustín Gómez Silingo. The duo is named after “Team Marvel,” with Gomez playing the Hulk and Alex playing Captain America.
- In the 2019 season, he participated in a total of 20 races, and although he did not win any of them, he and his partner Martin Sanchez Pinheiro reached the final in two races; Maestro Casca Ispadel (Portugal) and Paris Padel Challenger (France).
- Later in the 2020 season, Ruiz was paired with No. 29 player Pablo Lijo Santos. With Alex enjoying one of his best seasons alongside Martin Sanchez Pinheiro, Pablo Lijo could help him continue his previous work, as both have very similar backhand characteristics.
- In 2021 he and Stupac Zucker They won 2 titles: Sardinia Open 2021 and Mexico Open 2021 against Dinino and Paquito Navarro
- In 2022, he will play with Momo Gonzalez. They beat the first pair at the 2022 Marbella Masters and reached the final.
His record shows us how southpaws prefer to work with younger, more dynamic backhanders. He tried to get into the attacking position as quickly as possible and showed a very mature performance in the game.
advantage:
- Tall Lefties: In addition to being young and big, he’s left-handed, which allows him to build a team that’s capable on both ends of the floor.
- Maturity and Agility: He has shown us impressive maturity throughout his career, but his agility is one of his main attributes on the pitch. When Alex regained the front of the net, not only did he choose the correct approach most of the time, but he was also able to solidify his attacking position for a longer period of time.
- Kick Bandja: Since Malaguez is a dynamic, tall athlete, he has the ability to position the ball strategically. He can make an excellent smash, but his famous sidebar kick layup creates a lot of uncertainty off the bounce and is generally a solid option.
- Smash Recovery: Due to his height, he is able to quickly catch the opponent’s net smash. His athleticism allows him to stand up and use his wrists to attack opponents’ smashes. He usually throws the ball over the three-meter sidebar.
weakness:
- Aggressiveness: As a taller, quicker player, he plays with more objectivity and aggression. As a result, his defensive skills and hitting decisions are not always suitable for all game situations.
- defense: When he bounces too low in the corner, it’s hard for him to hit back. On the other hand, he makes poor decisions because he is uncomfortable in defensive positions and prefers to create transitions as quickly as possible.
Tactical Summary
As far as his tactical game is concerned, Alex does have a dynamic and aggressive padel style. His constant search for a quick transition to offense is similar to many other young offensive talents who have been promoted.
At the end of the day, we can sum up Alex’s playing style as being direct and candid. He feels most comfortable at the net and presses hard with cuts, volleys and passes to the sidebar. Additionally, his offensive prowess can compensate for his defensive issues with consistent chases to the net and offensive shooting.
How do you see your future?
Until 2015, Alejandro was looking for a partner to act as his mentor. That said, having an experienced player by his side who can guide him and teach him the way forward. As an opponent, he has recently preferred to play with players of pure strength, in line with a more modern padel style.
He reached the 2019 Masters final, one win away from his best performance yet. Players like Agustín Gómez Siringo, Stupac Zuker or Momo allow Alex to manage the play and the risk, increasing the number of shots and doubling the power of the offense while reducing the consistency of the game. Moreover, it is a partner of this style of play, which can be more relaxed, not only pays attention to the development of scoring, but also maintains the rhythm, and has a strong offensive style. Given his more modern, fast and attacking style of cricket, Alex is on the right track if he can stay injury-free during his continued exponential growth.
