Carlos Daniel Gutiérrez Amaya, better known as Sanyo Gutiérrez, was a professional paddle tennis player, born 15 June 1984 Born in San Luis, Argentina. Standing at 1.77 m, Sanyo stands out for his unpredictable style of play, so he always has an ace in hand to surprise his opponents.
start
He started competing when he was 15 years old. In 2006 he moved to Spain and had some interesting results on the professional padel circuit. He developed as a player alongside cricketers such as Lahoz and Seba Nerone, but it was with his friend Maxi Sanchez that he achieved his best results.
After partnering with Juanni Mierez in 2015, Paquito Navarro became his new partner for the 2016 season and went on to win the 2016 Madrid Final Masters. Then, in 2018, Maxi Sanchez and Carlos Gutierrez dominated the World Padel Tour. It wasn’t long before Maxi and Sanyo finally both reached the top.
magician
Also known as “El Mago de San Luis,” Carlos developed several new and improved techniques throughout his career. Many fans of the sport will surely remember WPT commentator Lalo Alzueta’s famous quote calling him “Abracadabra Gutierrez”.
Sanyo has collected over 20 games and has truly reinvented the sport with some jaw-dropping moves. From the end of the court, behind the legs, to the right wall, or off the court recovery, Sanyo can create magical performances.
Advantage
– imagine:
Sanyo Gutierrez likes to build slowly until he gets the most out of it. Given his slow and precise technical movements, he can follow the trajectory of the ball as much as possible while hitting it from the sweet spot. This quick tracking and slow bat speed allows him to add an extra fraction of a second before hitting the ball to better explain the game.
In addition, he is able to quickly analyze the opponent’s position and, in most cases, is very accurate in his choice of shots, speed and ball spin. On the other hand, with a slightly lower than normal tour length, he can better position himself under and behind the ball.
– lob:
Sanyo usually covers more ground than his teammates. This allowed his partner to recover more energy and decide to finish the score in the most efficient manner, and Sanyo returned most of the center’s return. His lob backhand that slides over the wall is a brilliant and steady shot that adds recovery time for him and his teammates.
He has incredible defensive halls, he can hit the ball under the ball, reach a considerable height, well over the net and into the opponent’s back. These lobs are often difficult to counter, leaving opponents with limited options.
The Argentine cricketer also adds a lot of chipping to his attacking lobs, sending the ball quickly over the opponent’s head, often leading it into the back corner.
– backhand volley:
As a server, Sanyo covers the middle of the court with his extremely versatile backhand. He knows when to hit the flat, when to sidespin the forehand grid, and when to dribble. Also, his reading and control of the flow of the game is excellent.
weakness
– superstitious:
Some of the most amazing points we see in padel history are the works of the “Wizard of St. Louis” (Sanyo). Unfortunately, Gutierrez builds confidence in his game with brilliant scoring, and if he doesn’t perform as expected, he’ll be caught in a downward spiral.
Since the game is fluid and largely constructed by him, his superstitious twists lead to a complete lack of confidence in him. Without this confidence, Carlos did not do well in the preparation phase.
It’s important for the team to be mentally prepared for each point because when Sanyo looks at the game in a negative light, his opponent has the opportunity to change the game quickly or end it.
– Mental instability:
The contrast between good and bad attitudes in this kind of competition is usually caused by psychological instability. The Argentine cricketer’s style of play is far from linear, and his mental toughness can affect his skills even when an aspect of his game doesn’t work.
With tour experience, Sanyo is a middle-aged man with a teenage hunger. To overcome these slumps, his teammates have an important task: to boost his enthusiasm through constant positive feedback.
Carlos should play with a high-level player, not only with an offensive style of play, but also with a stable mentality. Maxi Sanchez is the perfect example of success, winning both sides of the game and both topping the World Padel Tour rankings.
