Former Atletico Madrid footballer Juanfran Torres and Brazilian player Lucas Campagnolo spoke with Padel Alto about the upcoming charity event at the Civitas Metropolitan Stadium in September.
Atlético Madrid icon Juanfran Torres will play again at the Atletico Madrid Stadium, but this time with a racket in his hands. The former Spanish player has joined forces with the Atletico Madrid Foundation and Brazilian cricket star Lucas Campagnolo on a solidarity initiative.
Padel Alto talks to the protagonists to find out more about the first padel event held inside a football stadium called “Play2Help”.
“It’s unimaginable”
Lucas Campagnolo is currently recovering from an injury that missed the WPT Valencia Open but remains optimistic and expects to return to the Italian Super Padel Major (Premier Padel Major). “I will be back on the pitch in Rome,” Campa told Padel Alto.
The Brazilian, meanwhile, took the opportunity to take part in the great initiative against childhood cancer, a grand event combining cricket and football to break the racket at the Civitas Metropolitan Stadium. All attendance records for sports.
PA: What does it mean to you that padel be present in a football stadium like the Mets?
– A few years ago, this would have been unthinkable for me, especially at the Atlético de Madrid team I supported in Spain. Whether I will be able to play at the Gremio Stadium, my beloved team, is still up in the air.
“Padel Celebration”
On Saturday, September 9, the groundbreaking new edition of “Play2Help” will be celebrated at the Civitas Metropolitan Stadium.
The Atlético de Madrid Foundation and team icon Juanfran Torres are at the forefront of this great initiative of solidarity. The former Spanish footballer discussed the incident with Padel Alto.
PA: What is this initiative about? How did it come about?
– This is a solidarity initiative in the fight against childhood cancer to raise the largest amount of funding for research. Together with the Atlético de Madrid Foundation, we will organize the first ever cricket match in a football stadium.
PA: Can you reveal the names of the people who participated in the competition?
– It will be a tournament involving players, ex-footballers, influencers, celebrities and more. We cannot yet reveal the identities of the participants as they are still being finalized. It will be a celebration of padel, bringing the sport closer to all spectators.
“Play2Help” will take place on Saturday, September 9th at the Cívitas Metropolitano Stadium. Proceeds from this padel celebration will be dedicated to the fight against childhood cancer in partnership with the “Médula para Mateo” and “El sueño de Vicky” foundations.
