Padel from the very beginning…

Enrique Corcuera built the first padel course in Acapulco, Mexico in 1969. The first pitch is approximately 25 meters long and is surrounded by walls to avoid vegetation from intruding into the pitch. These walls are 3 meters high behind and 2 meters high on the sides, and he placed nets in the middle of the court, with entry and exit gates on the sides. This is how the new sport known today as padel was born.
Subsequently, due to the intense Mexican heat, it was decided to reduce the height of the side walls and replace them with wire mesh similar to that used today. At first, the scoring and the ball were the same as in tennis, the only difference being that if the ball bounced off the floor and then off the wall, it could be played back through the net and play continued. The rackets used are the same as those used in American “platform tennis”, shorter and cordless.
The growing popularity of the sport in such a short period of time has quickly been recognized by many involved. In 1974, Spanish Marbella Club founder and businessman Alfonso de Hohenlohe received an invitation from Enrique Corcuela (inventor of padel) to visit his home in Mexico, Show him the movement he just invented. Padel was called “Paddle Tennis” at that time, and it was played with wooden sticks. Alfonso de Hohenrolles liked the new sport so much that when he returned to Spain he decided to build the first two cricket stadiums in Spain at the “Marbella Club” in the province of Malaga.

In 1975, Julio Menditeguy (Argentinian polo player), a friend of Alfonso de Hohenlohe and a frequent visitor to Marbella, decided to play Promote the sport. Today’s padel…
padel sport It’s a mix of tennis and squash. The rules are similar to tennis, but a cricket court is smaller than a tennis court, and the walls allow you to make extra rounds. That’s why we say padel is similar to squash. The padel court is 20 meters long and 10 meters wide, with a rear wall made of glass and a height of 3 meters and a glass side wall of 4 meters high. Walls can be made of glass or other solid materials, or even materials like concrete. The rest of the pitch is enclosed with metal mesh and nets up to 4 meters high.
Padel is not played with a “racket”, we call it “Padel Bat”, without strings, but with a grip. Another big difference is that padel is always played in doubles, while singles do not exist in padel.
Serves are also different, the ball has to bounce off the floor once and then hit from below waist height.
